Residential solar panels in Southern & Western Maryland
Residential solar in Maryland: lock in a lower rate for decades.
Residential solar panels in Maryland are the smartest way to escape rising utility costs. Your utility raises its rates almost every year, so when you own your power with Energy Select, you fix your effective cost per kWh, typically a fraction of what the grid charges, and then keep that rate for the 30-year life of your system.

The problem with renting your power
Your utility bill is built to climb forever.
- Lock your rate. Owning your system fixes your effective cost per kWh for the 30-year life of the panels — no surprise hikes.
- Beat the escalator. While neighbors on the grid pay more every year, your solar rate stays flat. The gap compounds in your favor.
- The grid becomes your battery. Maryland’s full retail-rate net metering credits the extra power you produce, so day and night balance out.
- Stop paying, start owning. Instead of a permanent rising bill, you own an asset that adds value to your home.
YOUR RATE VS. THE GRID
Most homeowners lock in a rate well below what they pay the grid.

What does locking in your rate save you?
First, enter your own bill and the rate on it, not numbers we made up. Then we’ll project 25 years of rising utility costs against a locked solar rate, shown as a range because every system is different. Of course, it’s only an illustration; your custom estimate will be exact.
A rate you control
Instead of renting power, you lock in a fixed, predictable cost per kWh for the life of your system, typically a fraction of your utility’s rate, which keeps climbing while yours stays put.
Escalator-proof
Maryland utilities file for rate increases year after year. However, your solar rate doesn’t move with them, so the longer you own, the wider the savings gap grows.
More home value, tax-free
In addition, an owned system typically raises resale value. Better yet, Maryland exempts that added value from property taxes and the equipment from the 6% sales tax.
Net metering built in
During the day, you send extra power to the grid and then pull credits back at night. As a result, Maryland’s full retail-rate net metering makes the grid work like a free battery.
Low-maintenance, monitored
Because there are no moving parts, panels carry decades-long warranties. Moreover, we set up production monitoring so you can watch your system pay you back in real time.
Local, in-house crews
Because we run two Maryland offices with our own installers, you never deal with a subcontractor or call center. As a result, we truly know your county, your roofs, and your utility.

Straight answers
Residential solar panels in Maryland, honestly explained
When you own a solar system, you pay once for equipment that produces power for +30 years. As a result, when you spread that single cost across all the electricity it generates, your effective rate lands at a small fraction of what you pay the grid today. Your utility, by contrast, charges a rate that rises almost every year. Because the exact gap depends on your system and your utility, we will calculate your real locked rate on a free estimate.
Once your system is paid for, the cost of the power it makes does not change . For example, there is no monthly rate that creeps up with inflation or utility rate cases. In other words, you have effectively pre-bought decades of electricity at a fixed price. Meanwhile, as grid rates keep climbing, the gap between what you pay and what neighbors pay only widens in your favor.
Whenever your panels produce more than your home is using, the extra flows back to the grid and, in turn, your meter credits you at the full retail rate. Then, at night or on cloudy days, you draw those credits back. In addition, Maryland’s rules let unused credits roll over, so a sunny summer helps cover a darker winter.
It depends on your energy usage and roof; however, most Maryland homes need a system in the range of roughly 10–20 kW. Rather than quote a number that will not fit your home, we instead build a custom design sized to your actual bills. As a result, you see the financing options and your locked rate up front, so the price you see is the price for your house.
Most roofs work. Generally, the best candidates have south-, east-, or west-facing sections with limited shading and a roof in reasonably good condition. However, if your roof is near the end of its life, we will tell you, because it is usually smarter to replace it first, or do both together, than to install on a roof you will soon need to tear off.
Very little. To begin with, there are no moving parts, and panels carry decades-long warranties. In addition, we set you up with production monitoring so you can confirm your system is performing. Likewise, we offer maintenance and rapid support whenever you need it.
